Humor Is Dead

Residents of Oakbury, including members of the high school track team, go on a looting spree following the team's win at the locally-hosted regional finals Saturday. Above, senior Paul Milton of Oakbury takes the lead with a 13 inch TV/VCR. Way to go Paul!

Looting Follows Local High School's Win At Track Meet Finals

6/10/03 - An ugly scene followed the Northwest Regional Finals in Track and Field on Saturday when hometown host Oakbury High School won the overall competition, sending athletes, parents and fans alike to a post-victory looting rampage that lasted well into the early evening. Several local businesses are still scratching their heads this morning trying to figure out this one.

"I can't believe they would do this to their own town," said rival Northbury High School senior and high jumper Brett Ford after the riots last night. "That really ought to have been us setting fires and looting the Oakbury Hills Strip Mall."

Stan's Electronic Emporium had it's entire inventory cleared out before it was razed to the ground. Owner Stan MacFarland, a resident of nearby Eastbury, plans to rebuild.

"Yah, I'll rebuild, but not in Oakbury for crimminy sake," says a frustrated MacFarland. "The town is freakville, you know what I mean? I think it's the water - they're incredible athletes but they're, dim. Someone should really check the water."

Until results come back on the water supply, residents remain mute on the events that occurred Saturday afternoon, including the police and most elected officials. Seems, to this writer at least, that everyone here is in on the crimes, save for the several business owners from out of town.

"There will be no investigation," said Mayor Ken Clarkson in a written statement to the national press. For now, the mayor advises residents remain vigilant, put the incident behind them and go about their lives, and of course, support the team as they head to the state finals next weekend.
